Tell us a bit about yourself.

I’m a Project Coordinator and I’m interested in empowering women and local communities. I love watching anything on Netflix and venting about the experiences of women from minority backgrounds on the internet.

When did you start composting?

I started actively composting myself at the beginning of 2016 when I moved in with my husband. Before that I used the worm bin at my mum’s place but didn’t take a very active interest in it.

Why do you do it?

I compost because I can’t bear seeing food waste rot in a rubbish bin and go to landfill.

What do you love about it?

I’ve always been a bit of a casual science geek and love seeing the process of decomposition happen. It gives me a real buzz to see what was scraps from all sorts of food turn into this cool brown compost, that’s usable.

The Compost Collective runs free composting workshops all across Auckland. Participants get a $40 discount voucher to use on a compost system that suits them.
